JOHN BRODA

John Broda is a Michigan-born actor and singer, a true Midwesterner —but with a twist (wink, wink). He loves dramas, rom-coms, and stories that challenge traditional ideas of sexuality and masculinity. While other kids were playing with Transformers and Power Rangers, John was in the basement writing plays with his sister, bringing neighborhood friends together to perform for their parents.
Building community through the creative process has always been at the heart of John's work. Before attending SMU, he earned his BFA in Musical Theatre from Taylor University in 2020 and then earned his M.Ed. in Instructional Design and eLearning—all while taking on musical theatre gigs.
Since arriving at SMU, some of John's favorite credits include: Fred in A Christmas Carol (Dallas Theater Center), Tommy in Carrie (Theatre Three), Understudy/Swing for The Pirates of Penzance (Theatre Three), Swing for God of Carnage (Theatre Three), and Tristan in The Effect (SMU).
When not in rehearsals, John enjoys his instructional design work, pilates, working new plays with friends, drinking dirty chais, singing and jamming out to his favorite music, or a combination of all the above.
